This Year Think Cause & Effect

Blog post image

We often associate the month of February with hearts because of Valentine’s Day. However, there’s another reason we should think about hearts in February. Since 1963, February has been recognized as “American Heart Month” and is intended advocate cardiovascular health and raise awareness about heart disease.

Seems like we all hear about America’s Hear Disease issue repeatedly. But, please allow us to share just a few stats right from the CDC website*

  • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States.
  • One person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease.1
  • About 659,000 people in the United States die from heart disease each year—that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.
  • Heart disease costs the United States about $363 billion each year from 2016 to 2017.

Whoa! Those are some staggering numbers! But rather than burying you in more stats, numbers and scary details, we want to keep it REAL simple this February. While there are certainly some heredities, as well as mental/emotional/stress factors which play a role in determining your risk for heart disease, several preventable risk factors are in your control. This applies no matter your race, ethnicity, or gender.

We encourage you to get in the habit of thinking from a “CAUSE & EFFECT” standpoint. Below is a very simplified overview of what we mean by this:

Hopefully, that all makes sense. The point is this: Don’t be “afraid” of heart disease. There ARE things which CAN be done to prevent it and/or lower your risks. Be focused on addressing the top line factors … the CAUSES. Definitely do not wait for the bottom-line EFFECTS (diagnoses and conditions) to appear before you respond.

We work every day with people who are at all the various places on that flow chart above. Whether you are experiencing bottom line effects or battling you weight, obesity or metabolic syndrome, we take a science-based approach to providing you TOP line solutions. We provide you a personalized GENETIC-BASED weight loss plan, stellar support and an ideal fitness plan as key components of our clinical weight control program.
